Each project is assessed throughout the design process for it's attention to industry accessibility guidelines, and optimised for search engines. A user friendly experience for your customers is a must!
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and work enthusiastically and diligently to meet all deadlines. We're a friendly team - you're always welcome to ask any questions you may have! And as we very much appreciate the importance of a website to a business, we only host sites on reliable servers safe in the knowledge we're offering you an excellent service.
We enjoy the variety in our work, and getting to know you and your business is important and helps us design and build a website to be proud of - and one that will work for you. We don't see our service as simply 'making your site' - this is why for all sites we create we offer a free marketing consultation, and basic search engine optimisation and submission.
Who We Are
Tom Freeman and Lisa Bailey founded 18a productions in 2007, and have since built up a long list of happy clients and great people to work with.
Tom Freeman
With over 7 years of coding experience building websites and web based applications for government departments and businesses all over the world; Tom is the Technical Whizz Kid at 18a. As well as having a keen eye for design and being a master all things XHTML and CSS, he is also extremely experienced with LAMP technologies and all the tools required to make cutting edge websites.
Tom has benefitted from a wealth of experience gained from working with a large variety of clients and development teams, and putting the theory learnt doing a degree in Computing to good use building fast and scalable web based systems.
Being a bit of an internet evangelist, Tom loves to use and promote new technologies (and there are plenty of them I can tell you!).
It was his degree that brought Tom to Bristol; and it's his love for the city that makes him stay. But he still returns home to his parent's farm in Herefordshire regularly to catch some fresh country air.
There are many 'out of the box' solutions available to someone looking for a website - but often they are bloated, confusing and too complicated for the average user's needs.
Our love for, and experience of, coding means we can quickly and efficiently put together exactly what our clients need from the 18a library of code - and as those needs grow, so can the system. There are no restrictions with a custom coded application, especially when it's built in a modular and reusable way.
Lisa Bailey
Lisa's experience consists mainly of helping small businesses take their first steps onto the web, but she has also designed and built websites for national and international brands.
With 5 years experience of working in PR and web design and a joint honours degree in English and Media, she ensures that any website we produce will convey exactly what you need it to - and grab attention whilst doing so.
Lisa grew up on a small holding in South Somerset and as she loves the city life she currently enjoys the best of both worlds, with 18a's head quarters in Bristol teamed with frequent visits back to Chard!
For many, a website is their entire shop front, so this presence has to do justice to a company's image.

It's great that popular websites like Facebook are pushing the bar for what the public expect - but these expectations can only be met by an expertly coded system.

We have all the latest technologies...
and the old ones too.
Obviously we get all the new browsers when they come out, but we also need to keep hold of the old ones too. If you're appealing to the general public, you need your website to look good on the latest machine - but also one 5 years old.
So Mac or PC, Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari, we'll make sure people see exactly what they should see and that everything works just fine!
And as for software, well, obviously we have all the imaging products you need for a great design, but as far as our coding goes, we do all those dots and dashes (or semi-colons and hashes to be more precise) from scratch. You won't find a copy of Dreamweaver in our studio!
Help us plant a tree
It might sound gimmicky, but we believe if everyone just took a little more care of our environment, the world would be a much nicer place. That's why for every new client who enlists our help, we plant a tree. It might not save the planet, but it'll atleast make the world a little bit greener.
