Hi
Wow – without wishing to sound like everyone in the UK at the moment, or like a stereotypical English person to my newsletter-friends over seas… HASN’T IT GOTTEN COLD?! Yes beautiful and crisp and blue skies… but my goodness, you need gloves.
I’m off to Aldi in a mo because apparently this week’s “middle aisle sale” is all about ski clothes, and I have a little adventure coming up that I can’t say much about yet – but if I’m finding England in November cold, I’m gonna need a few more layers in December…
Site hygiene
This week I thought I’d share with you a few things to check on your website ahead of Black Friday. Now, many of you won’t have an online store, and many of you who do have online stores might be already set and waiting for the orders to pour in.
But:
(a) A lot of the tips I’m sharing are relevant for good site hygiene on any website, all year around.
and
(b) Even if you think you are prepared, a little re-check isn’t going to do any harm. It’s a pretty detailed article (hence this email being later than I’d have liked it to be this morning – Aldi will be sold out at this rate), so do check it out just in case I’ve mentioned anything you might not have thought of.

(There’s no opt in or anything, it’s just on our blog – but it’s a bit too long to put in the body of an email)
On the grid:
Incase you’ve missed it on my @talking.web Instagram, here’s what I’ve covered since my last email:
Why to take mailing list click reports with a pinch of salt
Website blunders I’ve heard about that are more shocking than my frizzy hair
The definition of Agentic AI (and why it’s scary)
A few points from my guide on how to get mentioned by ChatGPT
A rather lovely testimonial!
Fave tool of the week:
The next time you’re trying to explain an issue you’ve found to a developer, make a short, free loom.com video of it. You can record your screen and you speaking, and send it to them for free (I think free ones can be up to 5 minutes long) and it can save a lot of back and forth over email, or a whole call needing to be scheduled.
And it works both ways. I was explaining how something needed to work to a client last week, and was on the verge of suggesting a call – but I know how busy she is. So instead I sent her a video of me talking her through the issue and why our solution was going to help, and she loved it! Everyone was on the same page, and the solution could be moved forward without a 30 minute call.
Have a great week everyone, do let me know if my blog post inspires you to test or do anything extra on your website.
