Technical SEO
We’re a development agency that’s been doing SEO for 19 years (and our founders for longer than that)- but a specific kind. We do the technical and on-page side: the part that lives in your website’s code, structure and content. Audits that find what’s actually wrong. Migrations that don’t torch your rankings. Build-stage SEO so a new site launches ready. And ongoing care that keeps a site healthy once it is.
What we don’t do is link building or outreach – the off-page stuff. We prefer to teach people how to do that themselves. And when we do work monthly (more on that below), you’re paying us to check and fix things, not to send you a report about your rankings.
Where do we start?
Almost always with an audit: a proper crawl and human review of your site, resulting in a prioritised, plain-English fix list. We look at, among other things:
- Crawlability and indexing – can search engines actually reach and understand everything, or are there accidental roadblocks (robots rules, redirect tangles, orphaned pages)?
- Site structure and internal linking – whether your architecture helps or hinders, and whether your most valuable pages get the internal support they deserve.
- Structured data – what’s there, what’s broken, what’s missing, and specifically whether your entity data – the stuff that establishes who you ARE – is present and corroborated. Most sites have some content markup and no entity story at all.
- Speed and stability – Core Web Vitals (Google’s measurements of loading speed and layout stability), diagnosed to actual causes, not just scores.
- On-page fundamentals – titles, headings, content structure, and whether pages actually answer the queries they should be winning.
You get the findings as a written report plus a call to walk it through. Then we can make the fixes ourselves, hand the list to your developers with implementation notes, or work alongside them – we’re very used to being the visiting specialist who doesn’t tread on the in-house team’s toes.
The price of this initial audit really does depend on the size and complexity of your site… it’s from £350+VAT but can be £2100+VAT plus, depending on how far you want the report to go (do you want the highlights – and low lights – or do you want an analysis of every heading on every page?).
Is SEO ever “done”?
Honestly? No – and we’d be a strange company to claim otherwise, given we run a monitoring platform because websites drift. Scores slip as content gets added, plugins update, scripts creep in, and Google moves the goalposts all the time. A site that audited beautifully in January can be quietly leaking by June, with nobody having done anything “wrong”.
So once the big fixes are made, we offer ongoing care in two shapes. A monthly recheck – we look at what’s changed, what’s slipped, and fix it while it’s small. Or a quarterly tune-up – a small project every three months that catches the drift and gets everything back up to scratch in one go. Which suits you depends on how often your site changes and how much rides on it; we’ll recommend one, and you can step down (or off) whenever you wish.
For sites we’ve built, this often just folds into looking after the site as a whole – SEO care, updates and monitoring as one sensible arrangement rather than three invoices.
What you won’t get from us, monthly or otherwise: keyword ranking reports as the deliverable, link building dressed up as strategy, or an invoice that’s hard to connect to anything actually changing on your website. If a month comes where there’s genuinely nothing worth fixing, we’d rather say so than invent work.
What about website migration SEO?
Migrations – new domain, new platform, new structure, or a redesign – are where good rankings go to die. A site relaunches, nobody maps the old URLs to the new ones properly, and years of hard-won visibility falls off a cliff. We’ve been called in after this has happened, and it’s so much cheaper to involve us before.
Migration work with us looks like: a pre-migration benchmark (what you rank for, what earns traffic, what must be protected), a full redirect map (every old URL pointed at its proper new home), structured data and metadata carried over, and post-launch monitoring so anything that wobbles gets caught in days, not quarters.
If we’re building your new site, this is simply included – it’s how we build. If someone else is building it, we’ll happily be the SEO safety net alongside them.
What is build-stage SEO?
The cheapest time to do SEO is before the site exists. Site structure, URL design, entity data, template markup, performance budgets – these are decisions that cost nothing extra to get right at the design stage and cost time to retrofit afterwards.
We can join your new-build project – yours or another agency’s – at brief stage, and make sure the SEO thinking is in the foundations.
Does this cover AI search too?
They overlap heavily – the site that’s technically sound for Google is most of the way there for AI retrieval – but AI readiness adds its own layer: entity corroboration, agentic usability, what the assistants actually say about you. We audit that side separately (or together, which is usually the sensible way round): see our AI readiness audit.
Honestly, if you’re choosing between the two audits, tell us your situation and we’ll tell you which you need. Sometimes it’s both; sometimes it’s neither and we’ll say so.
The technical bit (for those who speak it)
Full crawl (JavaScript-rendered), log-file analysis where access allows, index coverage review via Search Console, redirect chain/loop mapping, canonical and hreflang sanity checks, JSON-LD validation and entity-graph review, CWV diagnosis to component level (LCP/CLS/INP causes, not symptoms), and template-mapped recommendations so fixes land once rather than page-by-page. Deliverable: prioritised findings with effort estimates, in language both your developers and your directors can act on.
Ongoing care runs on SiteVitals baselines – CWV trends, structured data validity, security headers and content change detection – so rechecks start from evidence of what moved, not a fresh guess.
Who asks us for this?
Organisations whose rankings dropped and nobody can say why. Teams planning a migration who’ve heard the horror stories (believe them). Marketing managers who want an honest second opinion on what their current SEO spend is actually buying – we’re very happy being that second opinion. In-house SEOs who need a technical heavyweight for a defined piece of work. And people who just want their site kept healthy without a big monthly production around it.
Something not right with your rankings?
Tell us your website address and what’s worrying you – a drop, a migration on the horizon, or just a feeling that things have slipped. A director will come back as soon as possible with an honest first take, including “this doesn’t need an audit” if it doesn’t. Get in touch >
